David was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but grew up in Cut Bank, Montana. He graduated from Claremont-McKenna College with a degree in economics. He then attended the University of Oklahoma School of Law. He graduated in 1983. He first worked for and became a partner of a large firm in Texas before moving to Montana in 1994. In 2006 he added a new partner, Dustin Chouinard, to form the practice as it is now: Markette & Chouinard, P.C. For many years he also owned and operated the Markette Double D cattle ranch. Having seen both sides of legal practice – the large corporate firm and the small firm in Montana – he greatly appreciates the satisfaction of being a community lawyer.
David has a broad general civil practice that includes water law, civil litigation, banking, real estate, easements, business law, and estate/probate work.
